MRP #001: Introduction | Sky Hero | DJI LightBridge | Flying in Wind | Eliminate the Props Using a GoPro

Welcome to the first episode of the MultiRotor Podcast.  In this episode you are introduced to your show hosts, Erick Royer and Joe Papa.

Erick-PicErick is the Executive Editor for Maplegate Media Group managing Fly RC, RC Heli Pilot and the new Multirotor Pilot magazines. He has 25 years experience in the hobby, 15 professionally. He was the Business Development Director for RCUniverse.com since its inception and left when the site sold in 2010 to join Maplegate. Along with his passion for the radio control hobby, Erick is also heavily into 3D printing and often shares his custom creations with the readers of the magazines.

 

Joe PapaJoe is the Technical Editor for MultiRotor Pilot magazine also with 25 years in the hobby. Along with being a DJI guru, he is extremely knowledgable in just about every area of the multirotor hobby. Joe is also a professional photographer (Joseph Papa Photography) and he brings his many years of photography experience to you providing tons of tips, tricks and information on aerial video and photo applications.  Joe professionally flies heavy-lift multirotors for movies and TV commercials. Joe also brings a wealth of knowledge on CNC machining and was the inventor/designer of the RCM BL5 Brushless Conversion for the Losi Five-T.

We discuss the new Sky Hero, distributed by KDE Direct,  and Mid-Atlantic Multirotor machines and the DJI Lightbridge. We discuss tips for flying in the wind as well as how to setup your GoPro to eliminate having the props in view.

We also answer questions on choosing the best inexpensive flight controller.

  1. Great podcast! You guys mention Winsted a few times, where are you located? I’ve been to RC Hobbies and More a few times, great place,

    • I am located in Torrington, and Joe is in Middletown. RC Hobbies and More is my friend’s store which is about 10 minutes from where I live.
